This charming property, previously the annexe to an old Victorian hunting lodge, has been modernised to provide comfortable holiday accommodation. Most of the rooms are timber lined, adding to the rustic charm of the chalet. They are bright and cheerful with comfortable furnishings and electric heating throughout.

The chalet has a private garden with a patio area, all of which is set within 5 acres of "wild" gardens and a lovely sandy beach, which visitors are welcome to make use of.

    The Village

  • Muasdale is situated in Argyll, Scotland, on the A83, 23 miles south of Tarbert, and 15 miles north of Campbeltown. This is an ideal spot to take advantage of the unique attractions that the Kintyre peninsula offers.

The village is only 5 miles from the ferry to Gigha, a few miles further north at Kennacraig is the ferry terminal for Islay, Jura, or Colonsay and just a few miles to the east of Kennacraig, at Claonaig, is the ferry to Arran. Walking, fishing, golf and birdwatching can all be enjoyed in the vicinity. There are lovely sandy beaches only a short walk away from the chalet and the village shop is only a 300 metres away.

    Local Activities

The new long-distance path known as the Kintyre Way, zigzags down the Kintyre peninsular, providing a variety of walking opportunities to both the serious and casual walkers alike. Details of the routes may be found on website www.kintyreway.com and provides maps covering the whole 89 mile stretch of the long distance walkway. Crubasdale Lodge Chalet provides an ideal base from which to explore the Kintyre trail and sample some spectacular scenery on the way.

For the watersport enthusiast there is excellent surfing and windsurfing at Machrihanish. There are some great scuba diving sites all around the peninsula and the islands, with compressed air available in Campbeltown and Southend. (For further Diving/Air information see SSAC Website for Campbeltown SAC contacts). There are also some wonderful white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters for those wishing a more relaxing time exploring rock pools or just laying on the beach.

    Sunset over Jura

Golf can be found at Machrihanish, Tarbert, Carradale and Southend where it is possible to play on some of the best links in the country, but be warned it can be very busy during the summer.

The archaeology of the area is very interesting, with a Heritage Centre in Campbeltown and the famous Kilmartin Museum of Ancient Culture just over one hours drive away towards Oban. The Macalister Clan Centre at Glenbarr Abbey has guided tours of the house and museum exhibits, as well as a gift shop & refreshments.

If you are lucky you might spot golden eagles, otters and dolphins. Buzzards are almost as common as sparrows here! If all else fails, there is always the Crubasdale cat!

Pony trekking is available at several locations in Kintyre.

For those interested in gardens the Kintyre peninsula offers a mild climate and consequently there are some well known gardens within a reasonable distance. Crubasdale Lodge has an ongoing battle to reclaim their garden from the wild (or - fighting the bracken!) a potentially varied garden complex, so you may be interested in seeing a garden in the making. There will also be plants for sale, depending on the season.

    Sunset over Cara

Crubasdale Crafts offers craft tuition to suit the individual or groups. You could try your hand at bobbin lace, beadwork, wool spinning & dyeing, felt making, Japanese folded patchwork & Sashiko as well as Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery; something different to do if the weather is inclement.

The nearest restaurant is within 5 miles of the village. The Argyll Hotel at Bellochantuy to the south has great views out with sunsets over the islands, with menus to suit most tastes. They serve lunches, teas and evening meals in the conservatory restaurant which overlooks the beach and sea. Otherwise Campbeltown and Tarbert offer a variety of restaurants.
